Energy storage specialist SOCOMEC has honoured the photovoltaic systems wholesaler BayWa r.e. Solar Energy Systems GmbH and the project developer Rheinland Solar GmbH with an award for the purchase of the 500th SOCOMEC energy storage system. The ceremony took place on 24 June as part of Europe\u2019s largest battery storage trade fair, ees Europe, in Munich. The 5 MWh SMARTSYS M5000 model is a turnkey battery container, supplied ready for connection to the medium-voltage grid, complete with a transformer and switchgear.<\/p>\n
BayWa r.e. Solar Energy Systems GmbH and Rheinland Solar GmbH are commissioning two SMARTSYS M5000 models as part of a 10-MWh system for a project in Mutterstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate. In future, the two lithium iron phosphate battery containers will enable an industrial refrigeration and logistics company to increase the self-consumption of its photovoltaic system, reduce peak demand and enhance security of supply.<\/p>\n

As a full-service provider, SOCOMEC supports BayWa r.e. Solar Energy Systems GmbH and Rheinland Solar GmbH from commissioning right through to end of life. SOCOMEC\u2019s Head of Marketing, Guy Schaaf, says: \u201cDemand for energy storage is rising, both for commercial and industrial installations and the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, as well as increasingly for grid-supporting applications on the customer\u2019s side of the meter.\u201d The Head of Marketing is delighted with the high level of interest in the company\u2019s full-service offerings: \u201cThe discussions at the trade fair have confirmed that our offering is an excellent fit for our customers\u2019 needs.\u201d He adds: \u201cWith our equipment, we can effectively support grid operators, stabilise electricity grids and increase system flexibility. Due to high demand, we have already expanded our areas of application to include mega-charging stations and grid services.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since its foundation in 2014, SOCOMEC\u2019s battery storage division has developed into a globally active department with around 70 employees in Europe and the USA. The company has sold more than half of its 500 energy storage systems since the start of 2024. In addition to Germany, the manufacturer is seeing significant growth in North America, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands, amongst other markets.<\/p>\n
