  • HOSCH Fördertechnik Expands at its Production Site in Recklinghausen

Global conveyor belt cleaning company invests in the new “Plant 2” and expands its headquarters

HOSCH Fördertechnik GmbH, the technical world market leader in the cleaning of conveyor belts, is expanding at its production site in Recklinghausen. In mid-June, the company opened a 5,300 square metre com- plex with a production hall, offices and an out- door area in the immediate vicinity of its headquarters. Cornelia Kill-Frech, Managing Partner of the HOSCH Group, which has around 550 employees worldwide: ” We are convinced that this expansion of our capacities is a clear commitment to Recklinghausen as a production location and an important sign of securing the future of our company”.

Shortly before the family business celebrates its 50th anniversary next year, HOSCH invested in the exten- sive and sustainable conversion of the new property, which has been named “Plant 2”. In February 2023, T&T Grundstücksgesellschaft mbH and its shareholders Dr Tim and Tobin Frech, grandsons of HOSCH company founder Hans-Otto Schwarze, purchased the property, including the hall, from a plant manufacturer. The brothers thus assumed further responsibility in the company and took the next step in the transition to the third family generation at HOSCH.

Energy-efficient refurbishment with photovoltaic system and heat pump

In April 2023, the conversion work began with a core refurbishment in accordance with the latest working standards, including current specifications for occupational safety and health and environmental protection. The hall, which covers over 2,000 square metres, was completely cleaned in the first step and then optimised according to the latest energy specifications. This included a new floor, new windows and the installation of high-speed doors. It was also fitted with new equipment. This includes, for example, four electric pedestrian stackers, shelving systems for around 1,300 storage locations and machines for mechanical processing. Investments were also made in the light-flooded office and meeting area, where the quality of working life has been significantly improved thanks to top-quality furniture, state-of-the-art technology, new sanitary facilities and break rooms.

“Another milestone in our success story”

A photovoltaic system will soon be providing electricity on the roof of the hall, while other energy-related refurbishments include a newly painted exterior façade, roof insulation and a heat pump system that feeds the underfloor heating. There is a direct connection to the neighbouring headquarters with a path through the newly created green areas and a lorry bypass.

In Plant 2, 25 of the 130 people currently employed by HOSCH in Reck- linghausen work in production and administration. Following the reorganisation, the offices have been occupied since mid-April 2024 and production of HOSCH products began in mid-May.

Cornelia Kill-Frech was certain at the internal opening ceremony at “HOSCH-Platz”, which was held under the motto “Creating new perspectives”: “Today is another milestone in the HOSCH success story. Not only have we created the capacity for further expansion, we have also significantly improved the working conditions for our employees.”

  • HOSCH Fördertechnik expands production in Recklinghausen

HOSCH Fördertechnik GmbH has acquired the neighboring 5,300 sq m site – Golden Module honors two U.S. managers.

Recklinghausen, May 2023. Investing in the future: HOSCH Fördertechnik GmbH, global market leader in belt-cleaning technology, is expanding its production capacity in Recklinghausen. The company has acquired a large complex practically adjacent to its Headquarters that covers approx. 5,300 square meters and includes a large hall and an unbuilt section. Cornelia Kill-Frech, Managing Partner of the HOSCH Group, which employs around 500 people worldwide, sees this as a clear commitment to the Recklinghausen site: “This expansion is another important step securing our company’s future.”

The new premises will be extensively renovated to meet current work standards, including the installation of digital technology. For the detailed planning the HOSCH Management has commissioned a firm of architects, which is primarily developing ideas for redesigning the offices and social spaces. The production managers will be responsible for the factory planning. Cornelia Kill-Frech said, “We will improve the working conditions for our staff and create capacities for further expansion.” At the same time, this move by HOSCH is paving the way for the next generation. The purchaser of the neighboring property is T&T Grundstücksgesellschaft mbh, whose shareholders are the brothers Dr. Tim Frech and Tobin Frech – grandsons of HOSCH’s founder, Hans-Otto Schwarze.

HOSCH Company is active in half of the U.S. states.

The coveted “Golden Module,” the HOSCH Group’s annual award for excellent management and sales growth, crossed the “Pond” this year. For the first time in HOSCH’s history, which spans over 40 years, it honored two people: Mary Murawski and Mike Evanitz, the joint managers of HOSCH Company in the U.S.

In his laudation, HOSCH Managing Director Ansgar Frieling explained the reasons for the choice, which was kept secret in the firm until the very last moment: “Mary and Mike managed to compensate for the collapse in sales in the coal and steel industry by moving into new areas of business such as copper, sand and gravel.

They have been managing the firm for the last five years and during this time they have expanded the area it serves. Today HOSCH is active in half of the 50 U.S. states.”

HOSCHiris – global launch of the digital product suite

The International Management Meeting (IMM) in May 2023 brought together the heads of HOSCH’s 18 subsidiaries around the world. They spent four days in Kamp-Lintfort, working through a packed agenda that included the topic of expansion, the award ceremony and, in particular, the product and market development of HOSCHiris.

This is the name of the suite of digital solutions for system and service management, early detection of belt damage, and continuous belt monitoring. Following the successful deployment of the pilot series, HOSCH is now rolling out this technology globally.

Another topic was the A1 scraper, the user-friendly model that won over many new customers following its very successful market launch at the end of 2021. In the first half of 2023, its sales figures helped increase the total turnover of the HOSCH Group despite rising energy costs and logistical bottlenecks. HOSCH also welcomed the Dutchman Sijbe Tjalle van Sloten (58) to its management team. He introduced himself at the IMM as the new HOSCH manager serving customers in the Netherlands and parts of Belgium.

  • Customer retention in difficult times

Customer retention despite corona: HOSCH Fördertechnik GmbH, Recklinghausen/Germany, invited customers to its first in-house trade fair, which was held under the motto “HOSCH 360°” on 18th to 19th November 2021.

Numerous HOSCH customers from Germany and the neighboring German-speaking countries took advantage of this opportunity to gain an overview of the current state of belt conveyor cleaning at HOSCH, a company with global operations that remains owner-managed in the second generation.

Superior belt cleaning was the common theme connecting the various exhibits and demonstrations at the pop-up “exhibition grounds” at HOSCH headquarters. Visitors had the chance to watch HOSCH scrapers in non-stop operation on moving belts in the training room and to gain an overview of the complete HOSCH product range in the marquee (Figure 1). Monitors had been set up to show how the digital HOSCHiris system works and a HOSCH service van in the outdoor area served as a “workshop on four wheels.”

On both days of the trade fair, the youngest product developed by HOSCH engineers, the HOSCH type A1 sprung-blade scraper, was the center of attention. “Dur-ing the corona pandemic, many important trade fairs were cancelled. In this situation, we decided to hold our first in-house trade fair to stay close to our customers despite social distancing,” explained Cornelia Kill-Frech, Managing Partner of HOSCH Fördertechnik GmbH.

The response from the trade-fair visitors was very encouraging, said Kill-French. “We received a lot of positive feedback and forged valuable new contacts.” At the end of the official trade fair, she threw a small party – together with Managing Directors Dirk Heidhues and Ansgar Frieling – to thank everyone at HOSCH who had helped make the first in-house trade fair a success. “It was a great team effort,” she said.

The HOSCH Group employs about 150 people throughout Germany. A total of 19 HOSCH companies on five continents create a tightly knit sales and service network. About 500 people work for HOSCH worldwide. This global team guarantees HOSCH customers working in various areas of materials handling effective solutions to even complex problems affecting their belt conveyor systems.
