The Pepperl+Fuchs Group, a pioneer in the field of mobile devices for hazardous areas, is continuing the success story of the 8-inch tablet series with the new Tab-Ex^® 05. The tablet, designed for use in hazardous areas, is based on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 and offers maximum reliability and ease of use even under demanding industrial conditions. This makes it the ideal device for meeting the high demands of digitalized process chains in IoT and Industry 4.0 scenarios.

The Tab-Ex^® 05 is the first 5G-based 8-inch Android tablet from Pepperl+Fuchs and is ideally suited for use in hazardous industrial areas in ATEX/IECEX Zones 1/21 and 2/22 and Division 1 and Division 2. Not only does it meet European standards and regulations, but thanks to Android Enterprise Recommended and Common Criteria certification, it also offers a high degree of futureproofing for global use. Operating system updates up to Android 22 and security updates up to 2032 ensure a long service life.

The device has 6 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM, which can be expanded via micro-SD to up to 1 TB. The tablet is also equipped with a 13 MP back camera and a 5 MP front camera.

S Pen stylus for highly precise input

The tablet also features a freely programmable button that can be used for emergency calls or push-to-talk applications, for example. A high-quality stylus (S Pen) enables precise operation of the touchscreen and is compatible with the Samsung Notes app and Air Command, which offers various S Pen functions and quick access to frequently used apps. The S Pen is ideal for digital signatures. It almost matches the writing quality of a real pen and has a fine 0.7 mm tip that recognizes 4,096 pressure levels.

Thanks to its IP68 certification, the tablet is protected against splashing water and works reliably in all weather conditions. The wet-touch function enables smooth operation in rain and snow. Glove mode means that the device can also be operated comfortably in the outside areas of industrial plants. Technologies for biometric authentication are also particularly advantageous: state-of-the-art functions for face recognition, for example, allow a high degree of security and user-friendliness.

AR technologies as efficiency boosters

In addition, the Tab-Ex^® 05 is ideal for complex applications based on augmented reality (AR). This offers decisive advantages in terms of the efficiency and productivity of industrial workflows. The tablet has an AR-capable camera and an extended set of tracking tools, including an accelerometer, a gyroscope, GPS and a geomagnetic sensor. This paves the way for location-based AR features such as indoor localization. Thanks to Google ARCore certification, the Tab-Ex^® 05 is ideally suited for remote support, training and the use of company-specific tools. This means that the tablet can be used for a wide range of industrial applications such as asset management, inspection or predictive maintenance. This ensures maximum quality and speed of workflows while at the same time minimizing risk.

Thanks to optimized performance, mobile workers can significantly increase the efficiency and productivity of their work tasks with the Tab-Ex^® 05, especially in challenging and harsh industrial environments. With the Pad-Ex^® 01 P12, Pepperl+Fuchs is launching a new tablet for professional use in hazardous areas in Zone 2/22, Division 2. The tablet is equipped with the Windows 11 Pro 64-bit operating system, thus offering maximum efficiency for demanding tasks and impressing with numerous other advantages: it has an ultra-thin and lightweight housing with a widescreen display and is nevertheless exceptionally robust. Thanks to its compact and lightweight design, the device is ideal for outdoor use.

The Pad-Ex^® 01 P12 is the first explosion-proof tablet to support powerful application due to the 12th generation Intel Core i5 processors based on the Intel Alder Lake platform, enabling a particularly high level of performance. The tablet works significantly faster than previous models with 8th generation processors. The model is also equipped with modern Intel Iris Xe graphics. This provides sufficient computing power to process large amounts of data, images, and video feeds in real time.

Capacitive 11.6-inch FHD display for crystal-clear, high-resolution images

The Pad-Ex^® 01 P12 is certified to protection class IP64, thereby protected against the ingress of dust and splash water on all sides. It also offers a very long battery life of up to 14 hours, which ensures uninterrupted, parallel operation of multiple applications with minimal risk of failure. In addition, the tablet features a capacitive 11.6-inch FHD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and DynaVue technology. Thanks to a brightness of up to 1,000 cd/m², the display offers exceptional readability even in direct sunlight. In addition, the model offers four modern touch modes – glove, pen, water, and finger – so that it is optimized for both indoor and outdoor applications and allows maximum accuracy in any environment.

The new Smart-Ex^® 03 smartphone paves the way for future-oriented digitalization of hazardous areas

Pepperl+Fuchs presents the intrinsically safe Smart-Ex^® 03, a new and resilient 5G- and Wi-Fi 6-enabled smartphone. The 6-inch device combines all the expertise and know-how of the Pepperl+Fuchs subsidiaries ECOM Instruments as a pioneer in intrinsically safe mobile devices, and Aava Mobile as an expert in industrial tablets and wireless technologies. In addition, the smartphone scores with global, competent, and customer-oriented support.

The smartphone, approved for use in Zone 1/21 and DIV 1, with Android^TM 13 operating system complies with the latest technical standards such as 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and eSIM and is therefore ideally equipped for flexible worldwide use in public and private networks of mobile network providers or companies. Thanks to the desktop mode and full support of the USB 3.1 Type-C standard, the Smart-Ex^® 03 can be connected directly to a computer monitor, keyboard and mouse via a multiport adapter or a docking station and thus can serve as a fully-fledged replacement for an office PC. This not only facilitates the further use of the data collected in the facility, which does not have to be transferred to another device first but can be transferred to the company network via a direct Ethernet connection. In addition, there is no need to provide a fixed workstation for mobile workers who only occasionally work in the office. As a further convenience and, above all, security feature, the Smart-Ex^® 03 is the only intrinsically safe smartphone on the market to offer a fingerprint sensor that allows unlocking without entering a code and provides additional security thanks to multi-factor authentication.

The successor to the Smart-Ex^® 02, redesigned from the ground up, impresses with a further developed safety architecture, which is particularly effective when used in potentially explosive areas. This includes, for example, hardware and software self-monitoring by means of device health monitoring.

Sophisticated diagnostic tools, detailed log files and remote control by corporate IT pave the way for continuous device monitoring and targeted problem solving. 5G for brilliant connectivity

The 5G radio standard in particular allows the Smart-Ex^® 03, which also supports 5G Standalone (SA), to provide outstanding connectivity. 5G has paved the way for industry 4.0 by significantly accelerating machine-to-machine communication.

The manufacturer is currently in the process of having the Smart-Ex^® 03 smartphone tested and approved by international mobile network operators to ensure optimal network performance – including T-Mobile US, Vodafone, Orange, Telefónica, KPN, Claro, LG U+ and AT&T, among others. This will ensure optimal connectivity around the globe – on both public and private mobile networks. At the same time, device and network management is significantly simplified by eSIM. This means that network changes can be carried out flexibly and remotely without having to replace a physical SIM card. In addition to an eSIM, the Smart-Ex^® 03 can also be used with a nano-SIM.

The software of the smartphone also meets the latest technical standards: with Android^TM 13, the Smart-Ex^® 03 has a cutting-edge operating system that optimally supports communication within segmented networks. The smartphone can, in the future, be upgraded to at least Android^TM 15. Explosion-proof smartphone Smart-Ex^® 03 honoured by the German Design Council in the “Excellent Product Design – Computer and Communication” category

The explosion-proof 5G smartphone Smart-Ex^® 03 from Pepperl+Fuchs has been honoured with the German Design Award – Special Mention 2024 by the German Design Council. The award recognises the remarkable design achievements of Pepperl+Fuchs and its subsidiaries ECOM Instruments and Aava Mobile, who are largely responsible for the design and development of the Smart-Ex^® 03.

The smartphone, which was developed entirely in Europe, impressed the jury not only with its comprehensive communication options, including 5G, WiFi 6E and eSIM, which predestine the smartphone for use in public communication networks or private campus networks.

The German Design Award, presented annually by the German Design Council, sets international standards for innovative design developments and competitiveness on the global market. A high-calibre international jury honours pioneering design achievements with the German Design Award.
