PAUS invests in VirtuRail in Austria

With its recent acquisition of a stake in the Austrian company VirtuRail GmbH, Hermann Paus Maschinenfabrik GmbH, based in Emsbüren/Germany, has become VirtuRail’s development and manufacturing partner, thereby laying the foundation for successful scaling. VirtuRail, which has been in operation for five years and is primarily funded by its majority owner Jäger Bau of Austria, has thus sealed a strategic partnership with the renowned German construction and mining equipment manufacturer PAUS, thereby continuing its growth trajectory.
Based in Bludenz, VirtuRail has already made a name for itself with its highly automated, fully electric, and—in the future — autonomous logistics vehicles following their successful deployment in tunnel construction projects in Switzerland and at the Kühtai power plant project in Tyrol. With its continuously evolving vehicles, VirtuRail is setting new standards in the field of sustainable, intelligent, and efficient construction site logistics. For example, as part of recently secured contracts for major tunnel construction projects in Germany, VirtuRail’s continuously refined vehicles—with a payload capacity of over 70 metric tons—will soon begin operations.
Paus, a family-owned business based in the Emsland region, has been internationally recognized for more than 50 years for its innovative products in the construction and mining machinery markets.
The new partnership not only strengthens both companies’ respective expertise but also opens up new application opportunities—particularly in the mining sector—thanks to Paus’s international market presence and technological expertise. At the same time, the collaboration, combined with Paus’s existing development and manufacturing capabilities, creates a strong foundation for the further scaling and industrialization of VirtuRail technology.
For Paus, this means strengthening its location in Emsbüren/Emsland, expanding its expertise in future-oriented technologies such as battery-powered drives and automation, and further enhancing its own brand.
The VirtuRail/Paus team is currently being expanded in Austria and the Emsland region, particularly in the areas of software development, electrical control systems, mechatronics, and (international) service. In this way, the company is responding to growing international interest and the increasing demands of future projects.
