Germany’s geothermal energy industry is coming together to form a single large federal association. Members of the Wirtschaftsforum Geothermie e.V. (WFG) and the Bundesverband Geothermie e.V. (BVG) decided on 5 March 2015 to form a joint association. The members of both organisations voted unanimously in favour of the merger at the 2015 GeoTHERM expo & congress. “From 2016 onwards, the Bundesverband Geothermie e.V. will be the exclusive point of contact for policymakers, businesses and the public,” explained Erwin Knapek, who has been chairman of the WFG since 2006 and president of the GtV-Bundesverband Geothermie e.V. (now called the Bundesverband Geothermie e.V.) since 2013. In concrete terms, the merger will involve the WFG members transferring to the Bundesverband Geothermie e.V., and the WFG being dissolved as planned. (WFG/BVG/Si)
