Steady expansion on a broad front

In 2023, the Moerschen Group will continue to invest heavily in targeted corporate expansion in several areas.

Moerschen GmbH, headquartered in Willich/Germany, is one of the most experienced plant constructors for the construction and equipping of gravel pits nationwide. The main pillar of the company’s development over the last few years has been a targeted expansion of its production and customer service capabilities. The Moerschen Group will continue to pursue this strategic approach in 2023 with extensive investments in production capacities and logistics.

With last year’s takeover of the renowned Saxon specialist for the development and production of belt conveyors, H. Aug. Schmidt Transportanlagen GmbH from Wurzen/Germany, the Moerschen Group once again underlined its ambition to expand its own product and service portfolio in a targeted manner. The announcement is now followed by impressive facts: This year, the Wurzen based site will be expanded into a modern manufacturing and logistics base with great effort. Construction work on a completely new production hall with an adjoining office unit is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2023 (Figure 1). The centrepiece of the modern hall complex will be a production area of 1,500 square metres. Among other things, three overhead cranes are planned for the technical equipment. Together with the 300-square-metre office unit, a complete base for the Moerschen Group will be created, which will be built according to the latest energy standards: The consumption of resources will be largely covered by a powerful photovoltaic system and an air-source heat pump, whereby a generation of at least 50 % of the company’s own energy requirements will be achieved. “With the future possibilities at the Wurzen site, we are raising our presence in the region and our materials handling division to a new level of production technologies,” Moerschen Managing Director Norbert Moerschen is pleased about this investment in the future. As a result, the expanded capacities of the independent subsidiary of Schmidt Transportanlagen GmbH fit seamlessly into the product philosophy of stationary plant construction at Moerschen – from individual one-off production to customised series technology from a single source – under one roof – at the highest level. By bundling synergies, Moerschen is thus opening up a further segment in the development and construction of components and complete plants for gravel works. Managing director Norbert Moerschen explains: “The inclusion of the Schmidt company in the Moerschen group of companies has more than fulfilled our expectations, so that after less than a year we can confidently take the next step for a future-oriented expansion of our possibilities in plant construction and services.”

The signs at Moerschen are also pointing to targeted expansion in other areas of the company: at the central headquarters in Willich-Anrath, the logistical possibilities are being strategically expanded (Figure 2). The independent division of Moerschen Elektrotechnik GmbH, which among other things also supports plant construction with components and services for state-of-the-art control electronics from a single source, is being considerably strengthened in the process. To this end, the company is building another hall complex for storage and assembly, with a total area of more than 1,600 square metres. Stocking and further processing will then be bundled in the new hall in order to further increase availability for all Moerschen customers, for example in the strongly booming sector of photovoltaics (PV systems). “Due to the gratifyingly strong development within the group, we are in the situation of needing further spatial capacities and are in a position to create them,” explains Norbert Moerschen.

With the extensive overall investments, Moerschen is following the demands that customers are making on the industry today across all sectors: Securing reliable supply chains all the way to the end consumer and ensuring future-proof sustainability. This requires high-quality products and modern logistics as essential pillars, and the Moerschen Group is also taking decisive steps in this direction in 2023.
