Paul Simons, who has been a diplomat for the USA for many years, became Deputy Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris on 8th July 2015.

Fatih Birol, currently chief economist at the International Energy Agency in Paris, will become its new director on 1 September 2015. He is taking over from Maria van der Hoeven, who is stepping down after four years in office.
