Wengeler & Kalthoff rolls out a new taphole drilling giant

Building on its recently established partnership with Moers-based Holtmann Fahrzeug- und Maschinenbau GmbH (http://holtmann-moers.de) has enabled Wengeler & Kalthoff (W&K) to reach a new dimension in taphole drilling technology. As a well-known manufacturer of breakout machines Holtmann will be able to use the new W&K tool not only to supply complete machines to its Vietnamese clients but also to extend its range of applications to include a converter boring service. The new drill crown has a number of impressive features: a 410 mm overall diameter, 180 pilot bit, internal cooling system and newly developed backflush cooling. The drill crown (Dragonhead-410) is laced with three different carbide systems to ensure a long service life. The entire ‘Dragonhead-410’ package includes not just the drill bit for taphole boring but also additional accessories such as a cross-feed system, drill rod and turn-out lock..
