Dear readers,

a foreword like this usually starts something like this: “You are holding the first issue of our 2026 magazine in your hands.” This time it’s different, because from issue number one in 2026, Mining Report Glückauf will be published exclusively in digital form and in English. In doing so, we are taking your reading habits into account and dispensing with the printing and distribution of our magazine.

Even though many of us (ourselves included) are familiar with and accustomed to printed magazines, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages: the content is available anytime, anywhere, references are easier to follow, and links to other articles related to the current article are easier to find. On our platform, you will now not only find the current issue, but as a subscriber, you can also conveniently view previous issues.

The handover of the editorial baton announced in the last issue of 2025 has been completed. In Karsten Gutberlet, we have gained an experienced and well-connected editor. He will be supported in the editorial office by Olaf Alisch, who will bring his many years of expertise and his network as former managing director of the Mining, Geology and Environment Association to his work for Mining Report Glückauf. Together with our colleagues at the Together Concept advertising agency, with whom we continue to work in our tried and tested manner, we have put together a very good team – the successful 1/2026 issue speaks for itself, in our opinion.

As announced, we will continue to develop the profile of the magazine, which you will be able to follow throughout 2026. From exciting new mining projects in Europe to practical issues of raw material extraction and the numerous aspects of aftercare and recultivation, we want to present a holistic figure of mining. The proven focus on health and safety at work in our dynamic industry will remain a recognisable feature.

We hope you enjoy reading this issue and look forward to many exciting topics in 2026.

Glückauf
