The UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein in Essen is an important landmark and identity generator for the entire region. From here, there are numerous opportunities to explore the legacy of mining and develop innovative ideas for former mining regions. In November 2023, the 21st Altbergbaukolloquium will take place on site for the first time. The organiser this time is the Research Centre of Post-Mining.

The colloquium is aimed in particular at experts from the fields of geotechnics, mine surveying, mining, geology and civil engineering from authorities, engineering offices and teaching and research institutions. The specialist event provides a suitable framework for discussing new results, findings and working methods, as well as for presenting technical solutions in the field of exploration, evaluation, securing and preservation of abandoned mines and other post-mining activities, and for cultivating contacts.
