The first blasting operations in the mining industry in the Upper Harz region date back to 1632. The rapid spread of the new extraction and driving technology is considered to be one of the epochal milestones in the development of mining technology. The continuous development of explosives in the Harz region, as well as the invention of dynamite in 1866, has led to the highly modern applications in surface and underground mining operations of today. In the past centuries, the exchange of information on the current state of technology was also of particular importance in order to disseminate further developments and promote innovations. The Drilling and Blasting Colloquium was created in line with this guiding principle and takes place every two years.

As part of the celebrations to mark the 250th anniversary of the Clausthal University of Technology, the Institute of Mining at the Clausthal University of Technology will welcome 250 guests from science and industry to the 24th Drilling and Blasting Colloquium on 22 and 23 January 2025. The speakers presented internationally used solutions and innovative projects from the fields of drilling and blasting technology, which will be summarised in the conference proceedings.
