Nominated for the German Lighting Design Award 2026

Since early 2025, the refurbished winding tower of the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum (DBM), Bochum/Germany, has been illuminated in the evenings by a new dynamic lighting scheme. The light art installation, designed by LightLife, has now been nominated for the German Lighting Design Award 2026 in the “Outdoor Lighting” category. The award recognises outstanding lighting design projects.

The new installation bathes the DBM and its surroundings in warm white and coloured light; lines of light symbolically set the pulleys and cable systems in motion, and changing text can be projected onto the cross-bracing. The dynamic lighting scenarios thus enable event-based presentations at the museum. The new installation has also further developed the landmark character of the winding tower for Bochum.

If you would like to vote, you can find the public poll here: https://www.lichtdesign-preis.de/publikumspreis-de/

The winners of the competition will be announced on 10 September 2026 at the International Congress Centre Stuttgart.

And anyone wishing to visit the headframe in person can do so at any time during the opening hours of the German Mining Museum in Bochum. (DBN/WK)
