Socomec launches new SMARTSYS energy storage range for commercial, industrial and grid operators

Energy storage specialist Socomec is unveiling its new SMARTSYS product range for the first time at ees Europe, Europe’s largest and most international battery storage trade fair. The two energy storage systems in the range are suitable for commercial and industrial facilities, right through to large-scale grid and infrastructure projects. Socomec will be showcasing these new products at its stand in Munich from 23 to 25 June.

The SMARTSYS C260 model in the series is a compact all-in-one cabinet system for commercial and industrial environments, combining power conversion and battery storage in a single unit. It can be combined with photovoltaic systems and charging stations for electric vehicles and delivers 125 kVA with 261 kWh of storage capacity. The storage system supports both grid-connected and off-grid operation and can be deployed in parallel configurations with up to 1 MVA / 2 MWh. Socomec has designed the enclosure in such a way that the footprint has been halved compared to previous models.

For large-scale energy storage and the provision of grid services, Socomec is expanding its range with the SMARTSYS M5000 system. This version consists of a 5 MWh lithium iron phosphate battery container and a turnkey compact solution for connection to the medium-voltage grid. For this medium-voltage converter skid, Socomec has pre-assembled the power conversion system (PCS), the control cabinet, the switchgear and the transformer on a custom-built metal frame. Possible configurations range from 2.5 MVA / 5 MWh up to 5 MVA / 20 MWh.

The Socomec SoLive Pro BESS digital monitoring platform monitors the battery data for both systems. The software enables operators to check system performance in real time, extend battery life by up to 20 per cent through targeted optimisation measures, improve system availability by three to five per cent each year, and unlock up to 15 per cent of additional usable capacity. “This reduces total cost of ownership and increases the return on investment,” says Socomec’s Head of Marketing, Guy Schaaf. Because the devices are very easy to install and can be commissioned quickly, companies can also respond optimally to short-term demand.

The manufacturer ensures fire safety through a multi-layered protection concept that complies with the strictest international standards. Socomec ensures a high level of cyber security through secure communication protocols and its proprietary cloud platform, which guarantees maximum security for data exchange, remote access and system monitoring.

“As energy requirements become increasingly complex, operators need storage solutions that offer not only capacity but also transparency and control,” explains Guy Schaaf. He adds: “In developing SMARTSYS, we have drawn on our many years of experience as a European manufacturer of battery storage and UPS systems to create products and services that are both intelligent and designed for long-term operation. This gives operators greater peace of mind when operating their energy storage systems and the sites they supply.”

Socomec will be presenting the two models in the SMARTSYS range at the ees Europe trade fair in Munich from 23 to 25 June. The manufacturer will also be demonstrating its new SoLive PRO BESS remote monitoring service live at the trade fair, featuring enhanced functions for analysing battery data. Visitors can find the company at stand B2.340 at the Munich exhibition centre.
