Tiefenbach receives contract for electro-hydraulic control units for world’s largest shield support

Tiefenbach Control Systems GmbH, Bochum/Germany, won the tender for the delivery of an electro-hydraulic control system for the world’s largest shield support. In this connection Tiefenbach is responsible for the development, the design and the delivery of the entire electro-hydraulic control system as well as for the safety-related auxiliary valves. The order of the shield producer ZMJ (Zhengzhou Coal Mining Machinery Group Co. Ltd.) has a value of more than 2.3m €.

The shield support, with a height of 8.80 m and a width of 2.40 m (Figure 1), is going to be the world’s tallest ever built shield support and will go into action at Shenua-Group in China. The total intended delivery time, including transport, amounts to approximately three months. This very short delivery time can be implemented in the planning, since over 80 % of the used components are produced and processed within the Knapheide consortium.

With the award of contract, the ZMJ-Group and Tiefenbach continue their very successful cooperation of the past. In the current year both companies already completed and delivered three major projects all over the world together.

With the given contract Tiefenbach strengthens its position as market leader for electro-hydraulics in the largest sales market Asia for mining products. Furthermore, Tiefenbach again sets standards with their solutions for demanding challenges. More than 120 longwall faces worldwide are already provided with the technology “Made in Bochum”.
