19th Aachen International Mining Symposium (AIMS 2015) and its successful handover to Professor Lottermoser

The 19th Aachen International Mining Symposium (AIMS) took place in May 2015. Under the guidance of Prof. Per Nicolai Martens, the 2015 AIMS Conference was again a great success with more than 300 participants coming from over 30 countries. The program comprised more than 70 papers covering topics in mining and resource development, which were presented by colleagues from academic institutions, government agencies, the mining industry and consulting companies. Furthermore, 24 different exhibitors used the opportunity to present their latest technology and their companies to an international gathering.

AIMS 2015 presented the 5th International Symposium on “Mineral Resources and Mine Development”. New developments in research as well as practical solutions from industry demonstrated how cutting-edge technology can lead the way to increased efficiency in raw materials extraction and to the access of future reserves.

At the closing ceremony, Prof. Martens handed over the keys for the new Institute to his successor Prof. Bernd Lottermoser. Under the applause of the audience, Prof. Lottermoser announced to continue the AIMS series. The next AIMS conference (AIMS 2016) will be held on 18th to 19th May 2016 in Aachen, Germany. It will be the first international conference on “Mining in Europe”. (RWTH Aachen)
