GFZ and DMT GROUP agree on cooperation for geoenergy research

DMT GmbH & Co. KG, Essen/Germany, part of the Energy & Resources business unit of TÜV NORD GROUP, and the Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences, Germany’s national centre for research into the solid earth, have joined forces to research geo-energy.

The GFZ is solving key problems of technology development in geothermal energy systems as part of the research topic “Geoenergy”. The Geoenergy & Resources unit at DMT deals with all topics relating to geological and geophysical exploration, data interpretation and evaluation of raw material deposits, including for deep geothermal energy.

GFZ and DMT have now signed a research agreement in which they have agreed to collaborate on the development of methods for site investigations using seismics and other geophysical, geological and geotechnical methods. The GFZ and DMT will also work together on specific site investigations, e. g. in the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region, in the Odenwald, in the Czech Republic or in Switzerland. A fleet of specialised vehicles is used for seismic site investigations as part of research projects (Figure 1). (DMT/Si.)
