Review – Kapital im Bergbau

Michael Seeger: Kapital im Bergbau, 1st edition, 251 p., Springer Gabler, ISBN 978-3-031-16358-2, 69.99 €
The supply of mineral resources is of crucial importance for the further development of our society. These resources must be sustainably mined in existing mines, but also in new mines that are yet to be developed. The development, operation and, after closure, the management of the legacy of a mine require a great deal of time and capital and are often associated with financial risks that are difficult to assess.
The book “Capital in Mining” by Michael Seeger (Figure 6) bases on the issue in Englisch from 2019, titled “Mining Capitel” is about the financing of mines and the procurement of mining capital. The volume offers a detailed description with extensive tables and numerous informative graphics of the various types of mining finance, including the creation of term sheets and transaction structures, so that they can be adapted by the reader for every conceivable mining business case for all mineral commodities worldwide. For each type of mining finance, this guide provides detailed case studies describing the business case and financing plan behind various large, medium and small mining transactions. The guide is particularly aimed at
- mine developers seeking financing for their mining projects;
- investors who want to invest in mining projects and operations;
- mining and processing companies that require equipment and facilities to carry out their contracts; and
- governments of countries seeking to develop their mining sector.
The book is divided into five chapters that take the reader step by step from the current characteristics of mining capital and the dynamics that affect the financing of mining projects, through the development of business cases for investments, the marketing of the mining business case, the procurement of mining capital, to case studies.
The author is a mining engineer with experience in mining finance, mine development and mine operations for energy minerals, base metals, precious metals and industrial minerals. He is the founder of MX Mining Capital Advisors, which advises mine developers, owners and mining investors on the financing of mining projects.
