The geosciences are among the disciplines that provide solutions to the challenges of the future. Through the work of professionals in the geosciences and mining, clean drinking water and valuable raw materials are extracted, environmental damage is investigated and remediated, sustainable energy is harnessed from the subsurface via geothermal energy, and the structural integrity of buildings and infrastructure is ensured.
Education in all natural sciences, engineering and mathematics is urgently required for this vital work.
