Dear readers,

Raw materials are the bedrock of our modern way of life. They underpin prosperity, enable technological innovation and form the foundation for the energy transition, digitalisation and the expansion of modern infrastructure. What was long taken for granted has now, more than ever, become the focus of economic, social and geopolitical discussions.

Against this backdrop, the MiningForum, as a leading international platform for dialogue between industry, academia, politics and the financial sector, takes on particular significance. Every two years, the event brings together experts from around the world to discuss current challenges, innovative solutions and the future of raw materials supply. Topics such as security of supply, licensing procedures, investment, technological innovations, sustainable value chains and international cooperation shape the agenda.

The papers from the MiningForum 2026, under the title Raw Materials Momentum, impressively demonstrate that the challenges of our time can only be overcome through collaboration. The development of new raw materials projects, the implementation of political strategies and the introduction of innovative technologies require close collaboration between companies, research institutions, policy-makers and society. Progress is made where knowledge is shared, experiences are exchanged and new partnerships are forged.

Through this issue and the forthcoming issue 5/2026 of Mining Report Glückauf, numerous presentations from the MiningForum 2026 will be made available to a wider specialist audience. The published articles not only document the current state of research, technology and industrial practice, but also provide valuable impetus for the further development of mining and the raw materials sector worldwide.

My thanks go to all the authors, whose commitment makes an important contribution to the international exchange of knowledge and experience. I would also like to thank the readers of this journal, whose interest and technical expertise help to keep the dialogue within our industry alive.

I hope you find this issue stimulating to read and gain many new insights from the articles.

Enjoy reading and Glückauf!
